Groom Your Website Traffic

by Tricia on July 24, 2009

In the beginning, websites were simple and no one gave a second thought about increasing their website traffic. The internet has grown considerably. One would think that with all the consumers on the internet, traffic would be easy to attract. Instead, this has had the opposite effect — as thousands of websites vie for the attention of visitors. The focus has now shifted from having the best-looking site to traffic promotion. Increasing website traffic is a hot topic in a world where the majority of the population relies on websites for information, entertainment, and commerce.

In considering all a webmaster’s options to increase website traffic, you have to consider what website traffic really means — and how you get it. When someone searches for a website to help with a problem, that person uses a search engine like Google. They type a keyword into that search engine and send it fishing. If you’re interested in traffic promotion, get that search engine interested in your site.

Using keywords to attract search engines to increase website traffic is more than simply plugging in a specific word repeatedly in site content. Bots and spiders are sophisticated enough to pick out the repetition — and that is something that can work against you. Good traffic promotion demands that you use your keywords as naturally as possible within the context of your site. A good webmaster will have done research and learned how to use keywords for the maximum effect on the search engines and readers alike. Increasing website traffic is a skill that gets better with practice.

The fundamentals of website traffic don’t just stop with being found on the internet. A webmaster has to draw visitors to a site, but has to retain them. If a visitor gives a site a glance, then clicks on to never return — that isn’t effective website traffic, nor does it do anything for a site. Hits aren’t enough. Interesting your visitors enough to stay, buy, or recommend your website is integral to online survival, and traffic promotion has to take that into consideration by providing solid information.

Website traffic is the holy grail of internet marketing
