3 Important Tips To SEO Your Blog

by Tricia on September 16, 2009

If you’re a blogger, chances are you’re not getting the all important search engine traffic you could. Don’t worry, most other bloggers don’t either because they have no clue as to how to go about optimizing their blogs. Failing to bring in targeted traffic is one reason many bloggers stop trying to make money with affiliate programs and find the next scheme to jump into.

If they only understood how easy it was, they might have a chance. It can be done in 3 easy steps. By following these easy steps, you can increase visitors and make the difference in a blog that creates the owner very little income or a blog that creates wealth for the Blogger.

Follow this advice to optimize every blog post you upload and take advantage of free Internet search engine traffic.

For starters, you should make sure your blog post addresses are optimized for the search engines. With many free blog services like BlogSpot, this is automatically done for you. If you’re a WordPress user, then set your url structure so that blog creates SEO friendly url’s when you create a post.

The way you do this in WordPress is go to the Permalinks tab, and check the button next to the Custom field. Next you’ll put a percentage sign followed by the words Postname. {Immediately after the words postname, Now} put another percentage sign. Now all your blog post will have SEO friendly addresses.

The next tip on optimizing your blog is to put your main keywords in the Title. This is very important. For example, if you’re blogging about ways to earn extra cash, then make sure these keywords are in the Title of your blog. Don’t put something like Johns Blog. If your name is John and you have a blog named Johns Dog Blog, then you’ll rank higher than if you name the blog something that does not tell the search engine what your blogs about.

Your next step is to use your keywords in your Post’s title. If you’re trying to lure traffic to read your post about online auctions to earn money, then your post title should have those keywords in it. Not irrelevant keywords like How I Make Money With Auctions. If you do this, the search engines will have trouble determining what your post is about and you can forget about getting free traffic. This is especially important if you’re trying to make money with Adsense.

These three tips will be letting the Search Engines understand what your post is about. By taking a little extra time and making it easy for the search engines to determine what your post and blog are about, they’ll rank your blog higher than a non-optimized blog.

Building links to each of your optimized post is the last step in dominating the search engine rankings with your blog post. But alas, there isn’t enough room here to go ito the details of link building. Learn how to optimize your blog and blog post first before taking on link building.

You’ve told us what not to do, but not really given any suggestions, examples of what to do with regard to title posts.

I have a travel blog, the title of which is Traveling Suitcase. Each post is about a different location and that location is a part of the title to the post. Botanical Gardens, St. Louis, Missouri for example. Is this correct or incorrect? Is travel suppose to be in every title? I’m not totally following what you mean, but am indeed interested.

Please swing by for a look, and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.
Sandy
